A turbulent weekend of Championship football has thrown the relegation battle wide open as we approach the final month of the season.
A solid start for Cardiff City boss Sabri Lamouchi initially alleviated relegation fears for the Bluebirds, but one win in five games has left them precariously sat as the buffer between safety and the relegation zone on goal difference.
Following Swansea City’s last-gasp victory in the South Wales derby at the weekend, Cardiff sit in 21st place on 39 points.
They are now level on points with Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield Town, who are currently 22nd and in the drop zone. The Terriers stunned promotion candidates Middlesbrough by beating them 4-2 on Saturday and in doing so inched them closer towards safety.
Another former Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy is now with Blackpool, and they occupy 23rd position on 35 points, four points below Cardiff. Lamouchi will take his side to Blackpool on Good Friday in what surely is the definition of a relegation six-pointer at this stage of the season.
Wigan Athletic currently sit bottom of the league on 34 points but with a win against struggling QPR, look to have clawed their way back into the hunt for survival, despite a three-point deduction by the EFL Cardiff have a game in hand (the ill-fated Rotherham United game) on those around them.
Just above Cardiff sit the Millers in 20th (41 points), QPR in 19th (42 points), and Reading in 18th (46 points). An impending six-point deduction for Reading would plunge them deeper into the relegation battle, with Royals manager Paul Ince admitting last week “we’re not going to get away with it.” There has been no update from the EFL at time of writing.
With all that taken into account, here’s how the bookmakers see the bottom of the Championship table finishing.
Final table
Birmingham City - 4/1
Reading - 2/1
Cardiff City - 13/5
QPR - 2/1
Rotherham United - 6/4
-----
Huddersfield Town - Evens
Blackpool - 2/13
Wigan Athletic - 2/13

So, bookmakers still expect Cardiff to be embroiled in the relegation battle but predict they will survive..
The Bluebirds travel to Blackpool, and still have to face Huddersfield and Rotherham in the final run-in. These games will surely decide their fate.
