Chelsea’s transfer window was certainly not as busy as some Blues’ supporters were expecting.
Having been linked with a number of players throughout world football, the only player that Marina Granovskaia and Thomas Tuchel welcomed to Stamford Bridge was that of Charlton Athletic youngster Mason Burstow but he will remain on loan with the League One outfit until the end of the season.
There were also only limited departures, with long-serving midfielder Lewis Baker the only player to leave as he joined Stoke City on a permanent deal.
That left the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Stamford Bridge, having previously been linked with a move away.
The closing of the transfer window does not necessarily mean that their hopes of more regular football have not been totally dashed.
It appears that there are still a few transfer windows around the world still open which could see the Blues’ fringe players facilitate a move.
A number of prominent European leagues still have their markets open, including the Turkish Super Lig and the Russian Premier League, whilst the Brazilian Serie A’s transfer window is also still open for business.
Whilst neither Barkley nor Loftus-Cheek have been linked with switches to any of those leagues, moves could potentially become an option for the Blues’ pair.
Meanwhile, one current Chelsea player has just departed the Russian Premier League.
After representing Lokomotiv Moscow on nine occasions throughout the first-half of the season, Faustino Anjorin was recalled from his season-long loan before then joining Championship outfit Huddersfield Town.
