NHS data shows thousands of patients waited over 12 hours to be admitted, transferred or discharged when attending a Nottingham A&E last month. NHS England has published data for the first time showing the number of A&E patients who faced a wait of more than 12 hours.
The data covers the month of February, with 120 hospital trusts featured on the list, and only features hospitals with major A&E departments. The NHS trusts covering A&Es in Nottinghamshire are performing better than many others across the country.
The Nottinghamshire trust with the most amount of patients waiting more than 12 hours in A&E last month was the Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) Trust, which runs Queen's Medical Centre and the City Hospital. Data shows that 14.3% of their A&E patients waited over 12 hours - equating to 2,055 attendances.

That places NUH at number 33 out of the 120 trusts. Much further down the list is the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs King's Mill Hospital, where 5.2% of patients waited over 12 hours last month - equating to 440 attendances.
Even further down is the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Of the patients there, 4.8% waited over 12 hours in A&E - equating to 610 attendances. Within the data, two trusts were excluded for data quality issues, whilst another two trusts were excluded as the totals were too small.
The hospital trust in England where the most patients waited for more than 12 hours was the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Data shows 31.3% of their patients waited more than 12 hours - equating to 3,350 attendances.
A standard was set in 2010 for at least 95% of patients attending A&E to be admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours. A review in 2019 proposed the target should be scrapped in favour of a series of 'access standards.'
This could have included the average A&E wait time, time to initial clinical assessment and time to emergency treatment. But the then Health Secretary Thérèse Coffey ruled out changes to the four-hour target last September.
