How Man City players reacted to Jack Grealish missed chances at Leeds

Rodri says Manchester City's players agree with manager Pep Guardiola that Jack Grealish needs to score more goals - saying they demand goals and assists from their number ten.

Grealish has been in good form this season, but only has one City goal to show for it, and had no assists before the trip to Leeds on Wednesday. At Elland Road, Grealish was in the mix of the action but couldn't score as he wasted three good opportunities in the first half.

The most glaring of those efforts was a simple finish from six yards that went over the bar, moments before Rodri opened the scoring. Grealish would go on to provide his first two assists of the season, and Rodri said the winger put in a good performance overall - even if he should have scored.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Rodri said: "I think we demand a lot from him, the quality of player he is we demand goals and assists, that's why we push him until the end.

"Today he was great. He missed a few chances he knows he has to score, but he helps the team to two assists."

Rodri's comments come as he challenged the whole City squad - not just Grealish - to be better in front of goal as he had to come to the rescue on the stroke of half time after a wasteful 45 minutes.

He said: "We did a very good game. The sense, we did stuff so good with high rhythm. This team [Leeds] was the highest rhythm in the league so we had to equal that. The first minutes were tough. They were very narrow, we have to adapt more the space. We had enough chances to have even more than three goals.

"[My goal] was important, these goals make the pain in the rivals in the last minute of the first half. We deserved to be on top, you have to score, that's the rule of football. We created three or four chances in the first half. But we miss and have to be focussed on scoring goals."

Regarding Grealish, Guardiola echoed Rodri, saying that while the two assists were positive, he cannot be missing chances of the magnitude of those in the first half.

Guardiola said: "He gave two brilliant assists. The second one, when we can rest the ball with Jack and Riyad, give us the right tempo to do back again and do the other side a little bit quicker. Of course, he has to score goals. The chances is there.

"It's a question of mentality, we see in training he has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. He's not a striker but has the ability to do it. He has to say 'I'm going to go in front of goal and I'm going to score.' No negativity. When it happens he will score goals."
