How big of a problem is the Boston Celtics’ bench?

The Boston Celtics’ bench continues to be a problem for the team, as they scored only 16 points in their recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. This puts them among the lowest-ranking teams in the entire NBA in bench scoring. The Celtics heavily rely on their starters to score, often needing them to reach 100 points in order to secure a win.

In this game, Sam Hauser was the only bench player to contribute offensively off the bench, with Payton Pritchard scoring 0 points for the third straight game. While Al Horford provided good defense, he only hit one 3-pointer during his time on the floor. The Celtics have been hesitant to try different players in the bench role, sticking with Pritchard, Hauser, Oshae Brissett, and Luke Kornet.

Teams have started to exploit the weaknesses of the Celtics’ second unit, which has been slow to adapt.

Bobby Manning of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast recently dug into this concerning trend; check it out in the clip above!
