Houston man kept 67 plants in his home and thought nothing of it. Then he ended up in the hospital needing a heart transplant

A Houston content creator’s viral TikTok series about his collection of 67 houseplants has sparked millions of views and plenty of questions. He claimed the plants contributed to a serious infection that left him hospitalized while awaiting a heart transplant.

In the first video, TikTok creator Iamcliffthegift (@iamcliffthegift) appears in a hospital setting with text overlay that reads, “Me getting ready for my Netflix documentary on how my 67 plants got me sick and now I have to live in the hospital until I get a heart transplant,” a popular TikTok trend in which creators frame unusual or dramatic life events as though they will someday become the subject of a streaming documentary.
