A community in Houston is ready to show off the quilt that they put together during the coronavirus lockdown.
The quilt was made using words or phrases that helped those get through the challenging time during the pandemic when meeting up together was not allowed.
The community is ready to reveal the quilt on Saturday, July 2nd to display all the challenging work and the dedication that the group put into making the sentimental piece.

Family and Community Development Worker at Houston and Killellan Kirk, Frankie Greenwood, 50, said: “I read somewhere that a community in Scotland created a lockdown quilt and I thought that would be something that we could do as a community.
"I asked some people if they would be interested in making a quilt.
“I put it on the Facebook community page, and I asked everyone to put down a word or a phrase of something that helped them through lockdown. We got around 52 responses from that, and they were things like ‘coffee in the garden’ and ‘walks in nature’. We had a wide variety of phrases, it was lovely.”
Due to the restrictions, the group could not meet up during the initial creation of the quilt - which began in October 2020 - and instead, made video calls and posted quilting materials through letterboxes to get everything in motion.
Once everyone made their patch with the word or phrase, and once the restrictions had lifted, the quilt was then put together and has now been named the Houston Lockdown Quilt 2020-2021.
Frankie Greenwood continued: “The unveiling of the quilt is open to everyone; people can come along and speak to the ladies that put the quilt together. It was a community project; people from the community sewed the patches and then it was a team of six that put it all together.”
Once the quilt has been unveiled, there is hope that the quilt will find a permanent home within the village. However, there is also talk of the quilt travelling a little including going to a quilt show.
The unveiling of the quilt will take place at Killellan Halls and around the back of Houston and Killellan Kirk between 2pm and 4pm.
The quilt looks likely to become a part of Houston’s community history and the people who gave their time and effort can be found in the back of the beloved piece as well as being forever sewn into the hearts of many in the community.
