India’s instant househelp startups, which offer services at Rs 100 and increasingly at far lower prices, are growing fast, but the bill for that growth is getting harder to ignore.
Snabbit spent Rs 195 crore in FY26 to generate just Rs 12.2 crore in operating revenue, while Urban Company’s quarterly loss more than tripled as it pushed deeper into the same business. Both companies are betting that cheap, quickly available domestic help will become a habit rather than an occasional convenience. For now, that habit is being built with heavy spending and aggressive introductory pricing. The question is whether the economics will improve fast enough to justify the money going in.
