'House of the Dragon' Finale's Ancient Alys Backstory Was Not George R.R. Martin's Idea

The 'House of the Dragon' showrunner confirmed that George R.R. Martin had nothing to do with Alys Rivers' Harren the Black connection in the Season 3 finale (Credit: Theo Whiteman/HBO)

The 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 finale revealed that Alys Rivers may have lived through Aegon the Conqueror's attack on Harrenhal and even been wed to Harren the Black, but that striking backstory was not supplied by George R.R. Martin and does not appear in 'Fire & Blood', according to showrunner Ryan Condal.

Condal has said the idea that Alys was once Harren Hoare's wife originated in the writers' room while they were working on Season 2, although he could not recall which writer first proposed it.
