Hour-by-hour weather forecast for Saturday as Greater Manchester to see sun and highs of 17C

The Bank Holiday weekend is expected to get off to a sunny start in Greater Manchester. Highs of 17C are forecast for the region on Saturday but it could turn cloudy later on.

High-pressure has been largely dominant over the UK in recent days, bringing a good deal of dry, fine weather and some sunny spells. The pleasant weather is expected to continue over the long weekend, but light showers could dampen the mood at times.

According to the Met Office, the day will start off dry with some morning sunshine. It is then expected to turn cloudier through the day with "some rain possible during the afternoon".

Forecasters have said it will feel "warm in any sunshine" as temperatures creep up as high as 17C in some areas. However, hay fever sufferers are being warned that the pollen count will be particularly high on Saturday, so it could be a bad day for allergies if you plan to be outside.

In Manchester, the best of the sunshine will be earlier on in the day, until around midday. But the warmest part of the day is expected to be between 2pm and 4pm. There is only a small chance of rain, around 10 per cent, from about 5pm.

Sunday could see spots of rain but it is expected to stay mostly dry and cloudy as the day goes on. Looking towards Bank Holiday Monday, the Met Office predicts it will be warmer than Sunday, and mainly dry with "a chance of showers".

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: “It is a different mix of weather this bank holiday weekend after what has been a largely settled week for the UK.

“The high-pressure that has been dominating the UK in recent days will move away to the south, allowing a low-pressure system to move in from the northwest. This will bring with it some more unsettled weather with showers or some longer spells of rain across the north on Saturday and then southern areas on Sunday. A good deal of dry weather is expected on Monday with most areas only seeing some isolated showers and mild temperatures, widely in the mid-teens.”
