Footage of the horrifying moment a high-earning drunkard glassed his own friend, leaving him with a permanent scar across his face, has been released by police.
CCTV captured the exact instant Jake Saxon, 23, launched the unprovoked attack.
The mechanical engineer was on a night out with his friends at the at The Vault bar in Buxton on September 12 last year, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live.
A disturbing clip - which has been released by Derbyshire Police - shows revellers dancing away at the bar in the early hours of the morning.
Among the crowd is Saxon from Leek in Staffordshire who can be seen unsteady on his feet around 1.10am - but talking to the victim.
Saxon is then seen stepping back and shockingly slamming the glass he was holding onto into the victim's face, causing a deep cut.
Bar staff immediately ejected Saxon, and the victim was swiftly taken to hospital, where he needed stitches for the wound.
Speaking about what happened, the casualty said he was utterly bemused as to why he was assaulted and the incident has left him 'wary of going out'.
Meanwhile, high-earning Saxon was arrested the following day.
He was then jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to the assault.
Speaking after the case, PC Lora Holdgate, licensing officer for the High Peak, said: “Saxon is now facing the consequences of what was seemingly a split-second decision to carry out an unprovoked assault which left the victim with permanent scarring, and a lasting impact on his mental wellbeing.
"Although no sentence will make up for that, I hope that the result at court will offer him some closure.
“We would like to thank The Vault for their actions that evening and for working with us throughout the investigation to help ensure a conviction was secured. Violence has no place in our licenced premises and is completely unacceptable.
"This case is an example of how we will work to ensure those involved in this type of behaviour will be found and brought to justice.”
Sentencing Saxon, Judge Michael Fowler told him: "Glassing, as it is euphemistically known, is always a serious offence because of the nature of the weapon used.
"It often takes place in a public area with others around and often takes place when someone is in drink or drunk.
"This is a grave offence. Grave in the sense that it was a vicious blow that has resulted in an injury which (the victim) suffers and will suffer for the rest of his life. He will always see the scar on his face."
