Two dead after gunmen in body armour open fire in horror mass shooting at car show

A horror mass shooting has seen two people massacred after gunmen in body armour open fire at a car show, injuring several others.

At a press conference in the past hour, Los Angeles City Fire Department captain public information officer Erik Scott announced two of the victims have died after being taken to hospital.

Police have placed the whole of the city of Los Angeles in the US on tactical alert as the gunmen remain on the loose, after four men and three women were hit when bullets rang out on a sunny afternoon in a park.

The evil gunmen are understood to still be on the loose, with CBS Los Angeles reporter Laurie Perez reportiong that a LAPD cop told her to "be careful, suspects still outstanding and they’re wearing body armor".

Spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department Brian Humphrey said earlier that at least seven victims were taken to nearby hospitals and two - a man and a woman - were initially reported to be in a critical condition.

The shooting at Peck Park in LA's San Pedro neighbourhood, which began at 3.51pm local time (11.50pm UK time) on Sunday, is believed to be gang-related.

Police were called to reports of an active shooter at the park after witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots.

Disturbing images on social media - which the Mirror has chosen not to share - show the bloodied body of a man lying still on the floor with his head covered with a white sheet, with blood splattered down the side of a car.

Another image shows multiple armed cops standing around the body of a man lying flat on the ground by a car.

While another image shows an injured female victim being treated on a stretcher.

Local media reports a police officer was seen performing CPR on a male victim.

Unconfirmed local reports say police scanners were describing multiple gunmen wearing bulletproof vests.

No active shooters are understood to remain at the scene.

A tweet from the LAPD at 1.37am UK time said: "Around 3:50 p.m. Harbor Division officers responded to 911 calls of a shooting with multiple victims at Peck Park. NOT an active shooter situation. PIO is enroute. Unknown number or condition of victims at this time."

A statement from Los Angeles Fire Department additionally confirmed all the injured had been evacuated from the scene, and read: “At least three of the patients are confirmed to have sustained gunshot injury, including one male and one female, both transported in critical condition.

“There are no other patients remaining at the scene. The incident circumstances, patient demographics, affiliation and precise nature of each patient’s injuries have yet to be confirmed.”

Witnesses reportedly described hearing dozens of gunshots ring out into the air, while one dispatcher described the "entire park" as a "crime scene".
