Horrified passengers rushed to help mum who collapsed in Turkey airport

People have rallied around a mum and her family after she collapsed in an airport in Turkey.

Melissa Kinsella, also affectionately known as Missy by loved ones, was on holiday with her partner Jay Smith, his family and three children, Chloe, nine, Beau, four, and Romi, two. The 30-year-old, from Moreton, was due to fly home on Monday, May 15 but collapsed in the airport after suddenly suffering a seizure, causing her heart to stop.

The mum-of-three was rushed to hospital in Turkey and is now fighting for her life. As Melissa is in a coma, the family said they are unable to find out if she had medical travel insurance and best friend Rebecca Dath has now set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs.

Friends, family and strangers have now raised more than £26,000 to help with the £1,800 a day hospital fees. The family also hope the funds will go towards an air ambulance to bring Melissa home which will cost £42,000.

People also shared their messages of support, writing on the fundraising page Stephanie Jones said: "My thoughts are with Missy and her family, after witnessing what happened in the airport my sister-in-law, went over to see if she could help, before the medical staff arrived, and Missy has been on all our minds since. Sending love to you all."

Cally Jones added: "Been thinking of Melissa everyday as I witnessed this in the airport. Thinking of Missy's family and friends at this difficult time."

Victoria Swanick also said: "Thinking of you Missy…I’ve got a Pea & Ham soup waiting for you in the café on your return my love."

Beryl Joy said: "Missy is such a beautiful soul, nothing is too much trouble, she goes out of her way to help anyone, she's kind, she's loving and most of all she's a mummy to three beautiful little girls, so lets get her home to them. Please everyone donate whatever you can spare, thank you."

Rebecca said Melissa had complained on social media the day before she collapsed that she thought she may be suffering from heatstroke.

Speaking to the ECHO, Rebecca said: "She was vomiting, felt unwell and that was the day before. When she got to the airport, she had a seizure and collapsed. That's been it since, she has been in intensive care on life support in Turkey."

Melissa had no other underlying issues and doctors told the family they will have to wait until the swelling on her brain reduces before they can carry out procedures. Describing her best friend, Rebecca said hairdresser Melissa is "very, very popular" and "well loved".
