Hooded thugs torched a car on a Kilmarnock street while residents slept.
Detectives are now trying to track down two men after the deliberate motor blaze in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Fire crews rushed to Scott Road in the town at around 2.41am on Wednesday and extinguished the inferno.
There were no injuries as a result of the attack but police are now hunting down two suspects following the shock incident.
Shortly after the blaze took hold, two people were seen leaving in the direction of Holmes Road and getting into a dark coloured vehicle.
The first suspect was wearing a dark puffa-style jacket, dark bottoms and a hooded top with the hood up.
The second suspect was wearing a grey jacket, dark bottoms, light-coloured trainers and a hooded top with the hood up.
Detective constable Haley Knowles of Kilmarnock CID, said: “Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of the fire.
“Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, we would appeal to anyone who has any information surrounding the fire to come forward and speak to police.
“I would also ask if you notice anyone matching this description or acting suspicious in the area that you get in touch with officers.”
