National Guard members salute the procession carrying the remains of the late Metropolitan Police Officer Terry Bennett on Independence Avenue Southwest on Monday. Bennett was struck by a car on Dec. 23, 2025, while assisting a motorist on Interstate 695 near the Third Street Tunnel and died of his injuries on Jan. 7, according to news reports.
