Homesense has announced it is quitting Swansea and relocating to Llanelli instead. The warehouse-like homeware store is currently based at Parc Fforestfach, but will be closing its doors for good at the retail park at the end of March. And the store will be directly transferring to Trostre Retail Park.
The opening of the Llanelli store will take place to coincide with the closure of the Swansea store. TK Maxx will also be opening up in Llanelli as part of the move. The company has said that everyone working at the soon to be closed store has been offered roles at the new shop in the west Wales town.
In a statement, Homesense said it was "grateful" to customers for their support for the store in Swansea, and hoped they would visit the new one when it opened. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.
A Homesense spokeswoman said: “We’re planning to relocate this Homesense store and create an exciting TK Maxx and Homesense Superstore at Parc Trostre Retail Park in Llanelli. This store will likely be closing at the end of March and transferring to the new superstore which is planned to open at the same time. All associates have been offered roles in our new superstore. We’re very grateful to all our customers for supporting this store and look forward to seeing you in our store in Llanelli.”
Parc Fforestfach opened in August, 2002 - the site covers 10.5 acres and has 130,000 square feet of retail floor space. After Parc Tawe, it was Swansea's first real out of town shopping centre and it soon attracted thousands of shoppers.
But Homesense is not the first store to have closed down in Parc Fforestfach in recent years. Marks & Spencer shut a clothes store there in March, 2018, having opened in 2004. H&M closed its doors there in September, 2020, after it announced plans to ramp up the pace of store closings in 2020 as it shifted its focus to its online business. And in June, 2020, DW Sports Fitness announced that 25 retail stores would be closing down as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. Greggs, Carphone Warehouse and O2 also once had units at Parc Fforestfach, but have all since closed.
