Home Bargains and B&M to close all stores to mark Queen's funeral

Home Bargains and B&M are set to close hundreds of stores across the UK on the day of the Queen's funeral next week as a mark of respect.

The popular discounted high-street retailers recently announced that they would both be closing the doors to all of their stores to allow staff and customers to pay respect to the late monarch.

Since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, many big name supermarkets and retailers have confirmed they will be closing their doors, or changing their normal working hours.

They join the likes of other major retailers such as B&Q, Poundland, Dunelm, Primark and John Lewis who have also announced they will be closing for the full day of the funeral.

Home Bargains confirmed the news on social media in a post that read: "As the country comes together to pay tribute and remember Queen Elizabeth II, all Home Bargains stores will close on Monday 19th September to allow our customers and colleagues to pay their respects to Her Majesty the Queen."

Fellow discounted chain B&M has also confirmed they will be closing for the duration of the Queen's funeral next week.

A spokesperson for B&M said: "As a mark of respect, all B&M Stores across the UK will be closed on Monday 19th September to commemorate the passing of our late monarch."

It comes after The Daily Record recently reported that global fast-food chain McDonald's would also be closing all UK branches until 5pm for the Queen's funeral.

Supermarket giant Asda - owned by the Issa Brothers - will also be closing their doors at midnight on Sunday, September 18, before reopening later at 5pm on the Monday.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away last week at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire and her funeral has been planned for Monday, September 19 at 11am.

The funeral has since been declared as a bank holiday by King Charles III, leading to many companies to make the decision to close their doors out of respect for the Queen.
