Home Alone fans are baffled as they only just realise major detail about classic Christmas film

It's been 32 years since film fans took the Christmas classic Home Alone film to their hearts. The movie, starring Macaulay Culkin as eight-year-old troublemaker Kevin McCallister who is mistakenly left home alone to defend his home against a pair of burglars on Christmas Eve, was released in 1990 and has been a Yuletide staple ever since.

However, it seems some fans are only just clocking on to the importance of an intergral scene at the very start of the film. As the opening credits are still rolling, a cop is standing in amidst the chaos of the McCallister house as he tries to get the attention of the kids running around with no adults in sight.

For some, this is the first year a number of viewers have realised who the police officer is. The officer warns the family about burglaries in the area during the holidays as he attempts to glean information as they jet away to Paris for Christmas.

It has apparently dawned on some that the cop isn't actually a cop, he's none other than one of the Wet Bandits played by movie icon Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci's burglar Harry Lyme later reappears with sidekick Marv Murchins to terrorise Kevin as he fights back in spectacular style.

@1_JP84 took to Twitter to ask: "Did you know in the film Home Alone Joe Pesci who plays Harry also plays the police officer dealing with the family in the beginning?" And @twostepmemory wondered: "Did u guys know the cop from home alone was also the robber?"

@812TheCount said: "There’s a small population of people in the world that doesn’t realize the cop at the beginning of Home Alone is also the robber." While @ericabuist observed; "I’m watching Home Alone. First observation: Joe Pesci is standing in the hallways dressed as a cop and everyone is fine with it. Just a cop standing in the hallway. No problem. Absolutely bananas."

@RealBroStalin wrote: "The most unrealistic part of Home Alone is letting a “cop” in your house without asking for a warrant." @lifeofdestooo tweeted: "Home Alone is so unrealistic like why is a cop in these folks house?" And @zerah561 said: "To this day I will never understand why the mom in Home Alone willingly just told a strange cop and a pizza guy everything happening in her family."

And @thatspicegirl picked up another 'problem' with the film. "Dying at how in Home Alone, the cops come at the end and arrest the wet bandits and STILL leave the him home alone. no wellness check, no medical attention, nothing," they said.
