Holy Shit: Opal Machines Across NSW Will Be Turned Off Completely From Next Week

Opal reader machines across New South Wales train platforms will be turned off from next week, amid the ongoing industrial dispute between the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) and the State Government. That means free train fares, baby. Unions NSW announced the ‘yuge news on Wednesday via Twitter, advising commuters the new measure will commence on September 21 and continue “indefinitely”.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

All opal machines at train stations in Sydney and NSW will be turned off indefinitely, from Wednesday next week.

If there is no way to tap on or off, you cannot be fined. Please remain vigilant as the NSW Premier may try various tactics to turn machines on.
