BHUBANESWAR: As a child, Netherlands striker Terrance Pieters was oblivious to the hard reality of racism. Growing up in Almere, a city 20km east of Amsterdam known for diversity and modern architecture, the colour of Terrance's skin was never a talking point.
In his teens, Pieters, whose mother is from Suriname and father is an Indonesian, faced deep-seated racism. But it was brushed under the carpet or overlooked largely due to his overprotective mother.
