HMRC working from home tax break to experience rule changes warns DWP

HMRC has issued a warning to people who have been claiming tax relief for working from home over the past two years. Many people switched to remote work when the pandemic began and have taken advantage of tax relief for doing so.

However, as of April 6, 2022 you can no longer claim blanket tax relief if you choose to work from home. But there is some help available if you work for at least part of your week from your own home.

The government allows tax relief for extra bills people might face if they are working from home. It says: "You may be able to claim tax relief for additional household costs if you have to work at home on a regular basis, either for all or part of the week."
