Hit London bakery Gail’s to open on King Street and in Altrincham in northern expansion

Gails, the artisan bakery chain, has confirmed it is opening new bakeries on King Street in the city centre and another in Altrincham. Both will open this year, the King Street branch first, and the Altrincham branch, on Shaw’s Road later in the year.

It follows news of its expansion into the north, with the announcement of a new branch in Wilmslow last year. The Wilmslow branch will open on February 16, at 7am.

Daily opening hours will run from 7am to 7pm, serving up sourdough breads, pastries, sandwiches, and cakes alongside its specialty house blend coffee.

It’s not the brand’s first foray to the north. It opened a wholesale bakery in Openshaw in 2017, and has been providing bread and pastries to some of the region’s best restaurants, hotels and cafes ever since. The brand has also recently partnered with nonprofit Eat Well MCR, and supplies surplus food to those suffering food poverty in the region.

Gail's was founded in the early 90s in London by chef and baker Yael (Gail) Mejia. Since then, it’s grown to 70 locations around the UK, from London and Brighton to Oxford and Cambridge.

The new King Street branch will be opening on the site of the former White Stuff shop, with an opening date to follow.
