The much loved Dreghorn Gala returns this year after 14 years away.
The last event was held in 2009, after which the committee resigned from their positions and no others were interested in forming a new one.
This year, 11 committee members including chairperson Meg Frew, treasurer Jackie Grace and other members Becky McLeish, Sophie McLeish, Jackie Grace, Lisa-Rose Buckley, Chelsey Abercrombie, Anne Howe, Alexis Aitken, Lorna Thompson, Yvonne Spence and Mary Milligan, have decided to come together to make Dreghorn Gala a yearly event again.
The Dreghorn Gala will take place on Saturday, June 17. On the day there will be a parade which will leave from the Old Coach Brae and will head towards the traffic lights at the Main Street, passing shalom, the bowling club and will head towards the Dreghorn Primary School Swing Park.
There will be stalls, arts and crafts, a tombola, a tug of water, food stalls and a funfair.
On the week leading up to the gala, there will also be a variety of events such as adult and kids bingo, treasure hunt, pub vs pub football match and a fun run around Dreghorn.
The days will be finalised in a programme which will be out locally next week.
Becky McLeish, committee secretary, shared with Ayrshire Live: "We are all excited for the upcoming Dreghorn Gala day and hope to make it a success and a yearly event again. It’s certainly been tougher than anyone thought organising it has been a challenge with obstacles we didn’t think of with it being our first gala day, but with the help of the committee and local community, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone on June 17."
The committee secured funding by holding fundraisers throughout the year including a Comedy Hypnotist Night and a Drag Queen comedy show. They have also receive funding from various businesses within Dreghorn including the butchers and Springside taxis.
Another committee member, Sophie McLeish, shared: "I've decided to join the gala committee as it was a huge part of my childhood being from Dreghorn all my life. I have many fond memories of the gala over the years as my mum was a committee member herself, and I want my two nieces to have the same amazing memories that I had.
"It’s such a great day to bring the whole village together and show Dreghorn’s amazing community spirit. I am so excited for the gala, the whole committee have worked so hard together to get this day going. It’s been harder than we initially expected as everything has changed since the last gala but as a team we have got there."
