A shopper has mocked 'hipsters' after discovering a lime green blazer adorned with packets of chewing gum for sale in a charity shop. Allan McCutcheon spotted the 'mint condition' £10 blazer while browsing for computer games in a branch of the Crisis charity shop.
As the 41-year-old scanned the racks, his eyes landed upon a lime green blazer that featured 20 packets of Wrigley's Extra spearmint flavoured chewing gum along the lapels and hemline. The previous crafty owner even attached individual gum pellets down the front of the jacket and cuffs, labelled 'green blazer with Wrigley's'.
After inspecting the quirky creation, shop supervisor Allan admitted the suit wasn't his cup of tea, branding it a 'fashion faux-pas'.
Allan said the item, which is still up for sale, may well have done better being flogged on another platform, joking 'it should have been sold on Gumtree'.
Allan said: "It's a fashion faux-pas. It's a hipster area so someone's definitely worn it.
"It's just weird. I left it on the rack, it isn't my cup of tea. I stick to normal clothes - nothing quite as hipster as that.
"They'd used the full packets around the collar and stuck single pieces to the trim.
"It was on sale for £10, the label didn't acknowledge the chewing gum.
"It was not quite my style unfortunately, it's still in there if someone wanted to go and nab it."
Allan believes the minty blazer is the handiwork of fashion students studying nearby.
Allan said: "I know there's fashion students around that area because there's an art college up the road. It must be something to do with them.
"I buy and sell toys and games so I go to a lot of charity shops. I was looking for some games and spotted the bright green jacket with the chewing gum on it.
"Someone said they should have put it on Gumtree.
"That shop does have weird and wonderful stuff."
After posting a picture of the bizarre clothing item, Allan was inundated with comments from other social media users who just couldn't ignore the statement piece.
One user said: "Looks in mint condition."
Another said: "Stick it on Gumtree."
Another said: "That's mint that is."
Mars, who own Wrigley's Extra, and Crisis, who run the charity shop, were contacted for comment.
