JAIPUR: Rajputana Riding and Polo Club (RRPC) and Team Himgiri got off to a winning start in the Prema Bissa Memorial Junior Polo Cup at Dera Ashwa ground on Tuesday.
Four teams are competing for the top honours in the four-day three-a-side tourney, organized by RRPC.
Himgiri defeated Team Dera Ashwa 6-2, while RRPC got the better of Spice Court Polo Team 6-1 in the league matches to bolster their chances of reaching the final which will be played on Wednesday.
After the completion of the junior’s tournament, seniors’ tourney will be held from April 12 to 16, informed RRPC owner Davipal Singh.
“We have organized a juniors’ tournament to encourage the upcoming polo players of the region. Teenagers need competitive tournaments at an early age. We also got a good response in the senior category where eight teams will participate in the Dera Ashwa Cup. We will also conduct exhibition matches for the ladies and veterans on the final day of the competition,” said DP Singh.
Chief coach of RRPC Vishal Singh, Sawai Man Singh Award winner, will supervise the matches.
Besides RRPC, Dera Ashwa, Himgiri, Prema Bissa Trust and Spice Court are the main sponsors of the twin tournaments.
