Himachal Pradesh: Rescue operations fail, no clue of Karnataka climber stuck in glacier

MANALI: A climber from Bangalore is struggling for life deep inside a glacier at an altitude of 5,300m for two days now. All attempts to search and rescue him by trained mountaineers, Army and police have failed and his fate is unknown.

Vedavyasa of Bangalore, the unlucky mountaineer, was attempting to summit the 6,264-m-high CB-13 peak with three companions when he fell into a deep, narrow crevasse on a glacier between CB-13 and CB-14 peaks. The incident happened around 11am on Thursday. Not equipped well to haul the victim from the crevasse, a team member climbed down to the base and contacted a rescue volunteer in Manali and Lahaul-Spiti administration through satellite phone of scientists who were studying the glacier. The distress message was received about 5pm. The rescue teams were alerted immediately.
