The cabinet has approved a bill to expropriate land in five provinces in the central region for the first phase of the Thai-Chinese high-speed railway project that will link Bangkok to Nong Khai.
Rachada Dhnadirek, a deputy government spokeswoman, said the bill designates 667 rai of land and 1,130 buildings in Bangkok for expropriation.
The double-track railway will be 1.435 metres wide along 253 kilometres of track for the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section. There will be four stations and one maintenance depot. The budget for the expropriation is estimated at 1.79 billion baht.
Construction of the first section is expected to be completed in 2026.
