Hidden Hockney Raises Funds: volunteer spots signed print in donated book; sale backs charity

A signed print that was created by British artist David Hockney was sold for £41,160 after a volunteer discovered it inside a donated copy of Paper Pools at a Salvation Army charity shop in Norwich, England. Jemma Banks is a long-serving volunteer and local artist who spotted the print while examining the book at the shop on Goat Lane. The publication had been donated in 2025, and the artwork had remained inside it for 46 years, with the Salvation Army subsequently listing the item through its Collectables & Curiosity eBay shop. The winning bidder chose to remain anonymous, and paid more than £41,000 for the find, with the charity confirming that the proceeds would support its community work.
