HIBERNIAN will not be interviewing Paul Clement or Henning Berg for their vacant manager’s position after also deciding Roy Keane is not the right man for the job.
Keane was the first major name to be linked with the Easter Road post after Shaun Maloney was sacked a fortnight ago.
Maloney had been in charge for just four months and 19 games after leaving his role as assistant to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national team, but paid the price for a poor run of form and results.
Back-to-back defeats to city rivals Hearts cost the capital side a top-six finish and a Scottish Cup final berth, and cost Maloney his job.
Keane had, via his representatives, shown his interest in succeeding Maloney but Hibs decided against holding talks with the Manchester United legend, who left his last frontline managerial role at Ipswich Town in 2011.
Clement, currently a first-team coach at Everton, was linked with Hibs over the weekend.
But it is understood the former assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich does not fit the bill.
Similarly, Henning Berg, the ex-Rangers defender and former Blackburn Rovers, Legia Warsaw and Omonia Nicosia manager, will not be short-listed.
Hibs owner Ron Gordon is expected to jet in to Scotland this week to help step up the search for a new manager.
Son Ian, who is the club’s head of recruitment, and chief executive Ben Kensell have been carrying out preliminary discussions with the aim of making an appointment in the coming weeks.
Former PSV and Derby County manager Phillip Cocu is another high-profile figure to have been linked, while the bookmakers have installed Michael Appleton - who came close to joining Hibs in 2019 before Paul Heckingbottom succeeded Neil Lennon - as favourite.
