Herne Hill fire: Woman dies after horror blaze rips through house

A woman has died after a house fire in south London.

The blaze ripped through the first floor of a two-storey building in Lambeth early this morning.

Around 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene in Railton Road shortly after 4am and a woman was rescued from inside.

However, she was quickly pronounced dead.

Two men had vacated the mid-terraced property without injury prior to the fire brigade arriving.

It took nearly an hour for the fire to be brought under control.

Half of the first floor of the house was completely destroyed by the fire.

The cause is being investigated by London Fire Brigade.
