Here’s why the Rams should sign WR Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow is hungry, experienced, and cheap. In a market filled with multi-million dollar contracts, value is everything. The Rams’ wide receiver room is filled but that doesn’t mean anything, especially in today’s NFL. They should consider signing the shifty slot receiver to further improve their depth.

Renfrow has had a rough couple of years. Once lauded as one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, the spark that once lit the two-time national champion was extinguished under the tenure of Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels, who was viewed as an offensive guru at one point, turned Renfrow into a shell of himself through poor play design and a lack of targets.

In 2021, Renfrow was targeted 128 times. When McDaniels took the helm in 2022, the number dropped to 50. In 2023, Renfrow was targeted 37 times.

There’s one moment in particular that spelled the end for Renfrow. In a Week 2 matchup against Arizona during the 2022 season, the Raiders and Cardinals were tied in overtime. Renfrow caught a pass and as he made a cut, he was blasted by a defender. He fumbled the football, which was then returned by Arizona for the game-winning touchdown.

Ever since that moment, Renfrow was a man in exile while still being forced to put on the Raiders’ uniform. All he needs is a little TLC from a coaching staff that believes in him.

Right now, the Rams have at least six receivers who will make the 53-man roster. However, injuries occur and a potential practice squad spot could be just what Renfrow needs to turn his career around.

Before McDaniels, Renfrow was a 1,000-yard receiver, Pro Bowler and a matchup nightmare, especially on third down. There’s no reason to say he can’t be exactly that again.
