  • Henry Nowak, 18, was murdered in Southampton, with police controversially handcuffing him as he lay dying after his attacker made false claims of racial abuse.
  • Vickrum Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder, while one police officer involved has resigned, and three others remain in service.
  • Violent protests, attended by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, erupted in Southampton, leading to clashes with police, missile throwing, and two arrests. Home secretary Shabana Mahmood accused protesters of “hijacking this tragedy to stir up violence and disorder”.
  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for a full investigation into how "accusations of racism" influenced the police's handling of the case, and the National Police Chiefs’ Council is reviewing its anti-racism guidance.
  • Henry Nowak's family appealed for his death not to be used to create division, while political figures criticised Nigel Farage's "unhelpful" comments and debated the existence of "two-tier policing".
