US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth faced nearly six hours of hostile questioning in Congress on Wednesday over the cost and justification of the Iran war, in his first appearance before lawmakers since the war began.
Hegseth and General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appeared before the House Armed Services Committee ostensibly to present the administration's 2027 military budget proposal, which would raise defence spending to a record $1.5 trillion (€1.28 trillion).
