Heavily armed police swarmed a Kilmarnock estate late last night following reports that a man had a weapon.
Specialist officers descended on the Onthank area of the town last night after the alarm was raised at around 9pm.
Dozens of police vehicles were dispatched to the area with a number of them stationed on Knockinlaw Road and more scouring the streets surrounding the centre of the incident in a bid to trace the man.
Police spent hours at the scene with attention also on Meiklewood Road near the Spar across from Onthank Primary School.
However, police said this morning that they found no trace of a suspect and that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
One armed officer could be seen patrolling Knockinlaw Road and while the street was not closed to the public, the firearms cop could be seen trying to urge traffic to move swiftly through the busy road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to Knockinlaw Road, Kilmarnock, around 9pm on Monday, May 1, 2023 following a report of a man with a weapon.
“Officers attended but there was no trace of anyone.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
