A desperate dog was seen running after its owner’s car after apparently being made to chase the moving vehicle “to exercise.”
A passer by, who did not want to be named, saw the incident while driving down Green Lane in Maghull. The woman claims she saw a car driving at “around 20mph with its hazards on” but then noticed a French Bulldog desperately trying to keep up with the moving Volkswagen.
However, when she confronted the driver she claims he told her he was “walking his dog” and to “mind her own business” as he “always did this.” The woman said: “I noticed a car driving towards me with its hazard lights on, so I stopped to let it past.

“Then I saw a small greyish French Bulldog running behind it. Initially I thought the driver didn't know it was there, so I turned around to follow him and flashed my lights to alert him to stop.
“When he finally pulled over, I got out to ask what was going on and asked him did he know a dog was running behind the car. And he told me ‘yea I always exercise her like this’ and ‘what's it got to do with you?’.
The woman claims after confronting the man he “hurled abuse at her” and “went as if to punch her” before getting back into his car “laughing.” She reported the incident to Merseyside Police and the RSPCA.
The woman added: “I told him that type of flat faced dog wasn't meant to run fast like that and it wasn't being exercised, it was just trying to keep up with its owner, who had put it out on a public road and driven off. Obviously it was going to keep running after him.”
Video footage shows the alleged incident, which happened on November 16. In the footage the small dog can be seen running down the middle of the road, behind the moving car, which can be seen intermittently putting on its brake lights as the pet, wearing a lead type harness, desperately tries to catch up with it.
The woman added: “To me the poor dog was dumped out of the car and was running to try and get back to its owner."
The incident was reported to Merseyside Police. A spokesperson for the force said: “We are appealing for information following a report of an assault in Maghull on Wednesday 16th November.
