The heartbreaking final moments of car fanatic Amandeep ‘Deepy’ Singh Sahota have been shared today at an inquest into his tragic death.
The 22 year old from Castleford took his own life on December 21, 2021, after falling from Woodhouse Lane car park in Leeds city centre.
In the hours before his death, Deepy who worked as a shop manager and was a frequent fixture in the West Yorkshire car scene, had posted a number of social media messages that indicated he was intending to take his own life.

Concerned for his wellbeing, countless friends, family members and even total strangers reached out from across the world on social media and urged him to change his mind but sadly they were unable to save him.
At an inquest into his death at Wakefield Coroner’s Court today, Thursday, March 31, the coroner Philip Holden heard how police had rushed to the scene to try and help Deepy but they were too late and he had already jumped. Paramedics were also dispatched to the scene and attempted to save his life.
Before his death, the court heard that Deepy had not suffered from any known mental health problems, and was otherwise fit and well apart from suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and childhood asthma.
As a result of the fall, Deepy suffered significant injuries, with multiple fractures to his skull, pelvis and chest ultimately claiming his life. In his ruling, Mr Holden described Amandeep as “a very promising young man who was taken from this world” and concluded that his tragic death was as a result of suicide.
”It seems to me that given the social media posts and from what he was telling his friends with his intention of taking his life...that I have come to the conclusion that Amandeep took his own life and intended to take his own life. So I am going to conclude overall that this was a suicide. This was a very promising young man who was taken from this world.”
Immediately following his death, tributes from across the world were paid to Deepy, who loved cars and was described as "a loving caring friend with nothing but time for everyone". In a post shared on Instagram, another friend shared their memory of the much loved young man.
"You have a legacy that will live on. The smiles that you put on peoples' faces will never be forgotten. I'm genuinely already lost without you and nothing will be the same. I miss you already."
Another of Amandeep’s friends, Saffron Kemp, also launched a gofundme campaign to try and raise money for Mind, the mental health charity to aid others who were struggling with their mental health.
“We can't ever bring you back Deep, but we can help others in your place," they wrote. At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised £1,621 to help support the charity and the work they do to support people struggling with their mental health.
Members of Amandeep’s own family have also launched a new foundation in his memory called 333SmokeFoundation. The organisation hopes to spread awareness about mental health, while also raising vital funds for organisations that support those struggling and in particular suicide prevention.
It’s a way for his legacy to continue to help people, something his sister Rapinder explained was something he often did.
She said: ”He always went out of his way to help everyone, for family or for friends. He was literally that guy who you could ring 24/7 and talk to him if there was anything you'd need. His last message was put out there for people to speak up and to get help, he wanted to make sure that people were good.”
