Heartfelt tributes have been paid to an "amazing" and "cheeky" rugby player who drowned in a hotel swimming pool while on a family holiday in Cyprus.
Ben Wood was vacationing in Paphos, on the Southwest coast of the Mediterranean island, when tragedy struck on Tuesday. The 21-year-old was reportedly pulled from the pool at King Evelthon Hotel but could sadly not be revived, Manchester Evening News reports.
Following his sudden passing, "devastated" family and friends have remembered the amateur rugby league player as an “absolute legend” and "amazing lad". His heartbroken brother, Josh Woods, who plays for professional rugby league team Newcastle Thunder in the Championship, a division below the sport's top flight, called his sibling his "hero".
