Headteacher pays tribute to student who died after meningitis outbreak

• A meningitis outbreak in Kent has tragically resulted in the deaths of two students and multiple confirmed cases across three educational institutions.
• One fatality was a Year 13 student from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Faversham, while the second attended the University of Kent. She was described by her headteacher as "incredibly kind, thoughtful and intelligent".
• The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is investigating 13 notified cases since 13 March and has urged anyone who visited Club Chemistry in Canterbury between 5th and 7th March to seek preventative antibiotics.
• Antibiotics are also being offered to 16,000 staff and students at the University of Kent, with some individuals hospitalised due to the outbreak placed in induced comas.
• Schools including Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys and Norton Knatchbull School have also confirmed cases among their Year 13 students, leading to widespread concern and precautionary measures.
