"He was an amazing friend": Tributes paid to little Lennox Railton-Craggs, 4, who died in off-road bike crash

He was the "amazing friend" who always held his schoolmates' hands.

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to little Lennox Railton-Craggs, who died in a bike crash on Sunday.

It is understood the four-year-old had been a passenger on the off-road bike that collided with a lamppost in the Eldon Lane area of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, at around 1pm.

Lennox was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle but nothing could be done to save his life.

Yesterday children at Prince Bishops Community Primary School, where Lennox had been a pupil, were being offered support to cope with their bereavement.

And the school released a moving tribute to Lennox, who they described as being "an amazing friend".

It said: "Lennox was a joy. He was such a happy boy who always had a smile for staff and other children. He loved playing with the dinosaurs and in the water but his favourite thing to do was to play outside.

"He was an amazing friend and could be often seen holding another child’s hand and he would go and get a tissue for anyone who was upset. We’re absolutely heartbroken by the news. Lennox will be hugely missed by all of the staff at school, especially those who were privileged enough to teach and support him."

The school also said it would be offering support to Lennox's family and speaking to children about bereavement.

It added; "Naturally we have spoken to Lennox’s family and as always, will do what we can to support them through the unimaginable pain they are going through.

"As so many children had heard the news before they came to school, we have spoken to them about bereavement, and we are providing support for them."

The school also posted a picture of Lennox proudly holding a model robot he had made at nursery adding: "He was very proud of it and rightly so. This is how we will always remember him."

Police are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating following the death of a four-year-old boy in Bishop Auckland.

“It is believed the child had been a passenger on an off-road bike when it collided with a lamppost shortly after 1pm the Eldon Lane area.

“He was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.”

Anyone with any information that could help the investigation is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 196 of January 23.
