The ABC News Breakfast team has playfully fact-checked US late-night host John Oliver after the comedian claimed he had come into possession of presenter Tony Armstrong’s scarf.

The sports correspondent’s scarf was famously swiped when he celebrated the Socceroos’ qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is underway in Qatar.
