RENO, Nevada — Firefighters have pulled the Hawk Fire back from the brink of disaster on the hills above Reno, pushing containment to 27% by Monday afternoon and holding it there into Tuesday morning after the blaze stalled just short of a heavily populated stretch of northwest Reno. The fire has scorched roughly 15,051 acres, leveled at least 32 houses, left seven people injured, and pushed tens of thousands of residents out of their neighborhoods since it broke out over the weekend — and it came dangerously close to reaching some of Washoe County's most heavily Hispanic and Latino communities before crews got the upper hand.
