Hashika sets pool ablaze

BENGALURU: Karnataka swimmers continued to make a splash at the Junior national aquatics championship in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. At the end of Day 2 of the competition, Karnataka led the tally with a total of 31 medals, followed by Maharashtra at 17 and Telangana with a total of eight medals.

In the 400m freestyle for Group II girls, Karnataka's Hashika Ramachandra created a new meet record with a time of 4:29.25 seconds. The teenager from Bengaluru eclipsed Aanya Wala’s mark of 4:31.99 recorded in 2019. Rujula S, also of Karnataka, finished ten seconds behind Hashika with a time of 4:39.53 seconds to settle for silver.

Hashika set another meet record in the 200m butterfly event. She rewrote Apeksha Fernandes’ three-year old record of 2:23.67 to win the gold. Hashika clocked 2:23.20 seconds to finish ahead of Karnataka’s Tanishi Gupta, who clocked 2:28.54 seconds.
