Manchester City supporters were left baffled by the decision to assign Riyad Mahrez to penalty duties when Kevin De Bruyne is in such red-hot goal-scoring form. Mahrez missed from 12 yards to put City on the brink of yet another Premier League title.
On yet another dramatic Sunday afternoon, champions City were made to work hard for the point they eventually picked up against West Ham after falling behind to a double from Jarrod Bowen. Those goals stunned Pep Guardiola and his men before Jack Grealish and Vladimir Coufal (OG) turned things around.
But there was further drama to come amid that London Stadium fight-back. Indeed, with the title race still open, if looking favourable from a City perspective, Mahrez stepped up from the spot in the closing stages and saw his late kick saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Had that gone in, City would have established a six-point advantage on Liverpool which would have left their title rivals needing to win each of their remaining two games - and overturn their inferior goal difference - to turn things back around on the final day of the Premier League season.
As it played out that lead stands at four points heading into the final games. City have one more match to come at home to Aston Villa and victory in that one will see them clinch the trophy.
However, while a point will also be good enough if Liverpool fail to win one of their remaining matches, supporters cannot help but thinking what might have been at the London Stadium this afternoon. Here are some comments as taken from social media platform Twitter after the Mahrez miss.
De Bruyne scored four goals in his last appearance and has 15 to his name this season.
