Nottingham Forest should only offer Lewis Grabban a new contract if he is prepared to take a hefty pay-cut.
That’s according to Reds legend Colin Barrett, who believes the club should start looking beyond the 34-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Speaking in the latest Garibali Red podcast, Barrett said: "Grabban has done his time. Forest need to move on.
“I'd sign him if he takes half his wages. I don't think he'll go anywhere else on the wages he's on now.
“We're talking about a different financial climate. Forest are no different to any other club.
“They'll look at his wages and say we can get [Keinan] Davis for X million and that's an investment. They've already got [Sam] Surridge so don't necessarily need Grabban at the wages he's on.”
Barrett’s verdict has triggered a mixed response from Forest fans, with many believing Grabban deserves another season at the City Ground.
Here’s a taste of what supporters have been saying on social media…
Jody Paul Price : Need to keep Grabban another few years, billy sharp is doing well at 36, he’s the best goal scorer at the club.
Malcolm Marks: I’m more interested in what position we will be in at the end of the season when all our loan players have gone back to their parent clubs.
Danny Hill: Listened to this podcast, while Barrett has a point he may have to reduce wages but he was way to harsh on Grabban and didn't give him the credit he deserves.
Adrian Nicholas: Grabban is a natural goalscorer.
Alan Wells: Another 1 year contract on club average wage, with bonus for appearances and goals scored?
Callum Nash: Why should he.
