Harry Maguire 'turned down' Manchester United exit to silence critics and more transfer rumours

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire reportedly turned down a move to Barcelona in a bid to silence his critics.

The England international saw his form dip during the 2021/22 campaign as United endured a torrid season and ended outside the Champions League spots. Maguire was pinpointed for his role in United's season and he came under fire as a result.

More recently, Maguire was jeered when in possession during the club's friendlies in Australia. And according to the Mirror, he turned down an opportunity to play for Xavi's side. The report suggests that the United captain told his representatives to reject any approach from Barcelona in the hope he could transform his United career.

Reports in Italy suggest that United have now turned their attention back to the midfielder. As per Calciomercato, United have rekindled their interest in the Serbia international, however, Maurizio Sarri's side want at least €70m (£59.5m) for the 27-year-old.
