Harry Kane and Oliver Skipp confirm Tottenham training ground drill that paid off vs Chelsea

Harry Kane has revealed that Oliver Skipp's hard work on the training pitch has paid off following his first Tottenham goal in Sunday's 2-0 win over Chelsea. Handed another start in midfield with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma currently on the sidelines, the England Under-21 international opened the scoring seconds after half-time with a thunderous strike from distance.

Getting the better of Joao Felix on the edge of the box to come out with the ball after Chelsea had managed to partially clear their lines following Emerson Royal's shot, Skipp let fly and his powerful effort found the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar. The midfielder duly ran off to the far corner to celebrate his first goal for the club, with all of his teammates quickly sprinting over to congratulate him on the landmark occasion.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Skipp did indicate that the team have been working hard in training when it comes to winning second balls on the edge of the area and then finishing the chances.

"It was great. First goal so it's always a special one and to do it in that game it means a lot," said the 22-year-old. "I think I cut across it slightly. It wasn't completely clean but when it drops on the edge of the box we do a lot of work on getting those second balls. It just bounced up nicely so I thought I'd give it a hit."

Kane, who completed the scoring with a goal from close range in the 82nd minute, delivered his verdict on his teammate's strike and stated that the team's work on the training pitch played its part in Skipp's screamer.

"It was top quality wasn't it," said the England captain. "It was as good as you can hit them really. Like Skippy said, we work a lot in training on edge of the box finishing from second balls. He's been working hard so nice to see it pay off."

Asked about the win that has given them a four-point cushion over Newcastle United in fourth, Kane added: "A really important result. Chelsea are a top team, tough to play against and we've struggled, especially here at home against them in the last few years, so it was a really important win.

"We played really well, especially second half, as we really put our foot on the pedal and we deserved the 2-0 win."
