There was some concern about the future of Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Harold Landry after the team didn’t tag him or announce a contract extension by the 4 p.m. ET tag deadline on Tuesday.
However, those fears were put to rest rather quickly, as the Titans announced a five-year pact with the Boston College product later that night. The contract will pay Landry $87.5 million over five years, making him the highest-paid outside linebacker in Nashville, surpassing fellow edge rusher Bud Dupree.
From where we’re sitting, there was never any doubt that the Titans would bring Landry back. Both sides had made it clear it was their desire to get something done, and Landry is simply too important to Tennessee’s defense.
After the deal was announced, Landry’s agent, Tommy Condon, told Jared Stillman of 102.5 The Game in Nashville that Landry, “was never leaving Nashville no matter what.”
He also noted that talks between the Titans and the former second-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft had made “serious progress” since the 2022 NFL Combine last week.

With Landry signed, the Titans should now turn their attention to center Ben Jones, who is the most important pending free agent on offense. Tennessee should also be making some cuts and/or restructures any day now.
