Rep. Chip Roy, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, emphasized the need to evaluate the request and determine how it would be financed. He suggested that if a significant amount of money is required to address the port issue, it should be paid for through alternative means to avoid adding to the deficit.
Similarly, Rep. Matt Gaetz highlighted the importance of rebuilding the bridge due to its substantial economic and trade implications. He stressed the federal interest in maintaining interstate commerce and ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous materials that rely on the bridge for passage.
The Biden administration has indicated a willingness to streamline certain regulations to expedite the reconstruction of Baltimore's Key Bridge. Georgia GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde supported this approach, stating that bypassing numerous environmental regulations implemented since the bridge's construction would be the most efficient way to address the structural issues.
