Happy Valley fans have described the confrontation between Tommy Lee Royce and Catherine Cawood as the "perfect ending" to the celebrated series. The pair had a dramatic showdown before Tommy poured petrol all over himself and set his body alight.
Catherine did her best to put the flames out, but it was too late, as she discovered Tommy had died from his injuries. The majority were happy with the ending — but some still have unanswered questions, including why there was no explanation of why Poppy Hepworth wore her coat inside all the time.

The popular BBC series had various familial relationships are at play. This time round, viewers were left concerned for the family of Ryan Cawood’s dodgy PE teacher Rob Hepworth. In the first few episodes of the new series, Hepworth was abusive towards his wife Joanna in front of their two daughters. Through the series, fans of the show raised concern that the couple's youngest child, Poppy, never takes off her coat — read more on that here. In every scene that she has appeared, Poppy has always been seen with her coat on - even when she’s indoors.
And following the showdown between Tommy and Catherine, fans still wanted to know the reason for that particular part of the plot. Taking to Twitter, many viewers wanted to know why Poppy never took off her coat. Hannah said: "I'm fuming we have never found out why the PE teacher's daughter never took her coat off."
Roxy asked: "But why did the little girl wear her coat all the time!? So many unanswered questions."
Amy said: "I still don't get why the little girl wouldn't take her coat off?"
Offering their thoughts on why the little girl wore her coat before the finale, one person wrote on Reddit: “I reckon it’s like a comfort blanket to her.”
Another person suggested: “My theory is the dad is also abusive to the kids and physically hurts them too so she has bruises and doesn’t want to take the coat off because of that?”
A third echoed: “It’s just trauma and her way of coping. A safety blanket,” discussing the young girl’s closed off demeanour. And a fourth agreed, writing: “She’s terrified. A psychologist on the police force will hopefully spot it, put it together and they get a picture of what’s been happening in that household.”
