Gudi Padwa is a Hindu festival traditionally celebrated in Maharashtra, which is the start of the Marathi New Year and the onset of spring. It is celebrated on the first day of Chaitra month according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar, typically in March or April.
Gudi Padwa is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in Maharashtra. Individuals wake up early in the morning, take an oil bath, and decorate their homes with rangoli. A "Gudi" – a piece of colored silk cloth tied on a bamboo stick with neem leaves, mango leaves, and a garland, and at the top, an upside-down silver or copper pot – is hoisted outside homes as an indication of triumph and prosperity.Families make special foods such as Puran Poli and Shrikhand. People also go to temples, pray for blessings, and take part in processions. The festival brings joy, renewal, and cultural pride.
